When the dust settles and the lights dim at the Mississippi Horse Park next February, another chapter in the storied history of the Starkville Rotary Rodeo will be written. Set for February 7-8, 2025, this beloved PRCA-sanctioned event promises two unforgettable nights of world-class rodeo action that will have fans on the edge of their seats.
The Starkville Rotary Rodeo has established itself as one of the premier rodeo events in the Southeastern Circuit, drawing top competitors from across the nation who come to test their mettle against some of the finest livestock in the business. The partnership between the Starkville Rotary Club and the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association ensures a competition that upholds the highest standards of the sport while maintaining deep connections to the community it serves.
Each year, the rodeo transforms the Mississippi Horse Park into a celebration of western heritage and athletic prowess. The arena dirt tells stories of triumph and heartbreak, of milliseconds that separate champions from challengers, and of the unbreakable bond between cowboys, cowgirls, and their animal partners.
While the competition stands at the heart of the event, the Starkville Rotary Rodeo represents something far greater. Proceeds from the rodeo support various charitable initiatives throughout the Starkville area, embodying the Rotary Club's commitment to service above self. When you purchase a ticket, you're not just securing your seat for a night of entertainment—you're investing in the community's future.
"This rodeo has become a cornerstone event for Starkville," says a longtime Rotary Club member. "It brings together people from all walks of life while generating funds that make a real difference in our community. That's something we can all take pride in."
When the chute gates swing open in February, spectators will witness the full spectrum of rodeo excellence across seven classic events:
Often considered the marquee event of any rodeo, bull riding never fails to bring crowds to their feet. Last year's champion, Outlaw Outlaw, scored an impressive 85 points on 4L Rodeo's Pee Wee to claim the top prize. With competitors like Zack Heimann and Clayton Sellars hot on his heels, the 2025 competition promises to be nothing short of spectacular.
The formula is deceptively simple: one cowboy, one bull, eight seconds. But within those eight seconds lies a lifetime of training, split-second decisions, and raw courage that defines this most dangerous of rodeo events.
The thundering hooves and tight turns of barrel racing showcase the remarkable partnership between rider and horse. Defending champion Randee Prindle's blistering 12.71-second run set the standard last year, but a deep field of talented competitors including Tricia Aldridge and Katelyn Nicholson will be looking to claim the title in 2025.
The Mississippi Horse Park's arena provides the perfect setting for these athletes to navigate the cloverleaf pattern with breathtaking speed and precision. Expect mere hundredths of a second to separate the champions from the contenders.
Team roping demands flawless coordination between header and heeler. Last year saw a tie for first place with teams Clint Keller/Morgan Jones and Marcus Theriot/Chase Graves both stopping the clock at an impressive 4.4 seconds. The lightning-fast pace and technical precision of this event make it a fan favorite year after year.
Often called rodeo's classic event, saddle bronc riding combines technical skill with artistic expression. Waitley Sharon's 82.5-point ride on 4L Rodeo's No. -672 captured the championship last year, setting a high bar for the 2025 competition. This event, with its roots in the practical ranch work of breaking horses, embodies the authentic spirit of rodeo.
Bareback riding tests both physical strength and technical finesse. Collin Roland's 80-point performance on Smith Pro Rodeos' Dark Knight earned him top honors in 2024. This physically demanding event requires riders to maintain perfect form while aboard a bucking horse with only a rigging to hold onto.
Also known as "bulldogging," steer wrestling showcases raw power and precise timing. Lucas Brasfield's 4.5-second run set the pace last year, demonstrating the remarkable athleticism required to bring down a running steer from horseback.
Tie-down roping combines horsemanship, roping skill, and on-the-ground technique. Roy Lee's 8.0-second run claimed the championship in 2024, highlighting the blend of speed and technical skill that defines this traditional event.
The Starkville Rotary Rodeo delivers far more than just competition. From the moment you enter the Mississippi Horse Park, you'll be immersed in an atmosphere that celebrates western heritage and family entertainment.
The rodeo features top-notch entertainment between competitive events, including specialty acts that combine humor, horsemanship, and audience participation. The arena will come alive with carefully choreographed performances that have become rodeo traditions in their own right.
The Starkville Rotary Rodeo prides itself on creating an environment where families can enjoy quality entertainment together. Children's eyes light up at their first rodeo experience—the sights, sounds, and excitement creating memories that last a lifetime.
Come hungry and ready to shop! Food vendors offer everything from classic fair favorites to southern specialties, while merchandise vendors provide the perfect opportunity to take home a piece of the rodeo experience. From western wear to handcrafted items, the vendor marketplace adds another dimension to the event.
Tickets for the 2025 Starkville Rotary Rodeo will go on sale beginning December 7, 2024, right here on this website. Based on previous years' attendance, early purchase is strongly recommended as certain seating sections sell out quickly.
The Mississippi Horse Park offers excellent viewing from every section, but each area provides a slightly different perspective on the action. Whether you prefer to be close to the chutes where the action begins or centered for a comprehensive view of the arena, there's a perfect seat waiting for you.
For those attending with family members who require wheelchair accessibility or other accommodations, the Mississippi Horse Park is equipped to ensure everyone can enjoy the rodeo comfortably. These specialized seating areas are limited, so early ticket purchase is particularly important.
The Mississippi Horse Park offers ample parking for rodeo attendees, but arriving early is recommended, particularly for Friday and Saturday evening performances. Gates typically open 90 minutes before the event begins, allowing plenty of time to find your seats, purchase refreshments, and explore the vendor offerings.
February in Mississippi can bring variable weather conditions, so dressing in layers is advisable. While the arena provides shelter from the elements, temperatures can fluctuate throughout the evening. Comfortable footwear is recommended, as you may be walking on various surfaces including gravel, concrete, and dirt.
The Starkville Rotary Rodeo maintains the highest standards of safety for competitors, livestock, and spectators alike. Professional rodeo personnel, including specialized bullfighters and medical staff, ensure that any incidents are handled with immediate and appropriate response.
Beyond the excitement in the arena, the Starkville Rotary Rodeo delivers significant economic benefits to the entire community. Hotels fill with visitors, restaurants serve hungry rodeo fans, and local businesses welcome an influx of customers during what might otherwise be a quieter winter weekend.
"The rodeo weekend has become one of our busiest of the year," notes a local restaurant owner. "We see faces from all across the region, and it's a chance to showcase Starkville's hospitality to visitors who might not otherwise stop in our town."
As February approaches, anticipation will build throughout Starkville and beyond. For some, the rodeo represents an annual tradition—a chance to reconnect with friends and celebrate a shared passion for western sports. For others, it will be a first-time experience, an introduction to the unique blend of athletic competition, cultural heritage, and community spirit that defines rodeo.
Whether you're a seasoned rodeo enthusiast who can predict a bull's moves before they happen or a curious newcomer eager to experience your first rodeo, the Starkville Rotary Rodeo welcomes you. Mark your calendars for February 7-8, 2025, and prepare for two unforgettable nights of championship rodeo action that supports a worthy cause.
The countdown to rodeo weekend has begun. Don't miss your chance to be part of this Mississippi tradition. Tickets go on sale December 7, 2024—right here on this website. Secure yours early and join us as we celebrate the spirit of the American West in the heart of Starkville.
