When the calendar turns to January in Louisiana, the rodeo world sets its sights on West Monroe for one of the first major PRCA events of the new season. Resistol's Stampede at the Ike presented by Cinch returns to the Ike Hamilton Expo Center on January 2-3, 2026, bringing world-class rodeo competition to kick off what promises to be an electrifying year of professional rodeo.
The Stampede at the Ike has quickly established itself as a must-attend event for competitors looking to start their season strong. With over $22,000 in prize money on the line, this PRCA-sanctioned rodeo attracts top talent from across the country, all vying to make their mark early in the 2025 season.
"This event has become a cornerstone of our early season schedule," notes a PRCA representative. "The combination of outstanding stock from Pete Carr Pro Rodeo, the world-class facility at the Ike, and the passionate Louisiana fans creates an atmosphere that competitors and spectators alike look forward to year after year."
Fans attending the 2025 Stampede can expect to witness the full complement of PRCA events, showcasing the diverse talents that make rodeo such a compelling sport. The lineup includes:
Bareback Riding - Where cowboys match their strength and technique against some of the most powerful bucking horses in the business. Last year's champion scored an impressive 82.5 points on Pete Carr Pro Rodeo's Colorado Cookie.
Saddle Bronc Riding - Often called rodeo's classic event, this display of grace and control atop a bucking horse pays homage to the working cowboys of the Old West. The 2024 competition saw a tie for first place with two 80-point rides.
Bull Riding - The most dangerous eight seconds in sports, where cowboys attempt to conquer 2,000 pounds of twisting, turning bovine athlete. The defending champion posted a remarkable 88-point ride on Pete Carr Pro Rodeo's Red Dot.
Steer Wrestling - Also known as "bulldogging," this event showcases raw power and precision timing as cowboys leap from horseback to wrestle a steer to the ground.
Team Roping - The only true team event in rodeo, where two mounted cowboys work in perfect coordination to rope a steer's horns and hind legs.
Tie-Down Roping - A display of horseback agility and on-the-ground quickness that evolved directly from working ranch skills.
Barrel Racing - Where cowgirls and their horses demonstrate remarkable athleticism, speed, and precision while navigating a cloverleaf pattern around three barrels.
The Ike Hamilton Expo Center provides the perfect backdrop for this prestigious event. This state-of-the-art facility offers excellent sightlines from every seat, ensuring that spectators won't miss a moment of the action. The climate-controlled environment means comfortable viewing regardless of the January weather outside.
The venue's expansive concourse provides ample space for vendor booths featuring western apparel, custom jewelry, rodeo gear, and more. Concession stands throughout the facility offer a variety of food and beverage options to keep fans fueled throughout the performances.
With abundant parking and accessible facilities, the Ike Hamilton Expo Center is designed to accommodate rodeo fans of all ages and abilities, making the Stampede a truly family-friendly event.
While championship rodeo action takes center stage, the Stampede at the Ike delivers a complete entertainment experience. The event kicks off each performance with a spectacular grand entry, featuring mounted competitors carrying flags in a patriotic display that celebrates rodeo's deep connection to American heritage.
Throughout the performance, fans will be treated to the comedic antics of a world-class rodeo clown who serves the dual purpose of entertaining the crowd and protecting fallen cowboys from aggressive bulls. Specialty acts between competitive events keep the energy high and showcase additional western skills and traditions.
For the youngest fans, the Stampede offers mutton bustin' competitions, where children aged 4-7 can test their riding skills atop wooly sheep in a scaled-down version of the grown-up events. It's often a highlight for families and creates lasting memories for budding rodeo enthusiasts.
The Stampede at the Ike proudly bears the names of two iconic western brands that have long supported the sport of rodeo. Resistol, known for crafting the finest western hats since 1927, continues its tradition of backing events that celebrate the authentic western lifestyle. Similarly, Cinch, a leader in western apparel, demonstrates its commitment to rodeo through its presenting sponsorship.
These partnerships, along with support from numerous local businesses, help ensure that the Stampede can offer substantial prize money to competitors while keeping the event accessible to fans. The sponsor presence extends beyond financial backing to include on-site displays and special promotions that enhance the overall rodeo experience.
Beyond the excitement inside the arena, the Stampede at the Ike delivers significant benefits to West Monroe and the surrounding area. The influx of competitors and spectators generates economic activity for local hotels, restaurants, and businesses during what might otherwise be a post-holiday lull.
The event also provides opportunities for local youth organizations to participate, whether through volunteer roles or special recognitions during the performances. This community involvement helps strengthen the connection between professional rodeo and the next generation of western enthusiasts.
Spectators can choose from various seating options, including premium sections that put you right on top of the action. Family packages will be available, making this an affordable entertainment option for groups of all sizes.
For those seeking an enhanced experience, VIP packages offer additional amenities that take your rodeo outing to the next level. These limited-availability options provide the ultimate way to enjoy the Stampede in style.
As the new rodeo season begins to take shape, the Stampede at the Ike stands ready to set the tone for an exciting year of competition. Whether you're a longtime rodeo enthusiast or considering your first live event, this PRCA-sanctioned competition delivers authentic western action in a family-friendly atmosphere.
Mark your calendars, and prepare to witness the courage, skill, and determination that define the sport of rodeo. From the thundering hooves of bucking stock to the lightning-fast reflexes of top competitors, every moment at the Stampede offers the chance to see greatness in action.
The countdown to the Stampede has begun. When the chute gates swing open at the Ike Hamilton Expo Center, will you be there to experience the excitement firsthand? Don't miss your chance to be part of this celebration of western heritage and championship rodeo competition.
